9th October 2004 Windsurfing: Datchet water Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 2-4 gusty Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: cold Sea Temperature: kin freezing Weather: fair Max Speed: Distance Covered: First time back on a board for 14 years. Last time was on my custom 270 sinker in Spain. Today was on a board that is 250 in length and floats??????? Expected to be the same standard as 14 years ago - what an idiot. After 15 minutes of blind rage trying to get going (these new boards feel wierd) eventually caught a gust and shot off with the 7m tush refusing to comply with my attempts to hook in. Got on the plane, which of course reminded me of why I windsurf. Fell in, managed to waterstart and shot back across the lake. By the time I'd managed this I had trouble using my arms as still hadn't got hooked in, apart from one attempt, which resulted in a rather feeble catapult. As I walked back to the showers, head bowed, I realised that I am no longer the tanned youngster screaming up and down on my sinker on the med, but a pasty 33 year old, who managed to plane for 30 seconds.....but it was worth it!!........I'm back!!! |
